Antique Porcelain Vase

On our way to New Plymouth for the Porcelain Exhibition, we stopped in Te Awamutu for a coffee. Right over the road from the coffee shop was an Antique Shop and sitting in the front window, in pride of place, was this vase.

It had been badly damaged and the owner of the shop let me take it home for just a few dollars. His loss that it had been damaged, but my gain!

I shall use it as an inspiration to paint an 18" vase I have that is a similar shape to this 24" vase. Meantime it dominates our lounge, taking pride of place on a coffee table!

Click on this address, and it will show a 3 minute photo clip of some of the porcelain
pieces displayed at the exhibition.
I entered 3 pieces, and all of them sold. So I was glad, and sad!

Test Tile!

This is the first fire of the tile, and below you will see how it looks after two more firings.

I thought you might be interested to see the stages. :-)

Grape tile

I used this 8" tile for a test as I wanted to check what violet of iron monochrome with added washes would look like. I like it!
I added the lustre and grapes on the sides as I wanted the main design to sit on an oblong shape and not a square, and this was one way to frame up the sides of the tile.
One of the next things I want to paint is a matching pair of ginger jars with a similar design on them. (hence the trial run!)
