Arlington Urn

This little urn (11 cms or 4 and 1/2 inches) was purchased in an antique mall in Arlington, Texas in 2008. The metal bands had been glued on, so I put the whole thing in my oven to heat and melt the glue. I then painted the cherries and the background, applied the paste, ground laid the base and lid, applied roman gold to the knob, paste and neck of the base, and then re-glued the metal bands back on. I loved every moment of painting it!
This little urn is also a nice reminder of a pleasant day out.

Oval Tile hanging in our Lounge

A close up of this oval tile is under the last 2 posts - this is a pic of where it is hanging in a corner of our lounge. You can see the grape vase with the round hole sitting on a small table under it!

A snippet of family news!

A snippet of family news is Chloe and Lee (parents of Sarah Jane) are going to have a son in September. Now that's exciting news!

I had better get another little box out of my cupboard and start painting something for the new baby as a keepsake of his birth. Mmmmm . . . . I can't paint roses on it can I? So maybe I can paint a rocking horse in blue or something like that.

Hollyhocks on a tile

These Hollyhocks were finished a few weeks ago, and I actually forgot I hadn't put them on my blog. Oh dear!

I plan to have them framed later in the year, but at present they sit in a sturdy stand on my dining room window sill. I enjoyed painting them and I enjoy looking at them while sitting at the table.

Oval grape and rose tile

This tile has just been finished, and today Jim (my husband of 51 years) has popped it in the frame for me. Now to find a place to hang it!

I can't believe it is July already. It is disappointing that I haven't had any new posts for a while - but large things (this tile is 15" x 11") take a while to paint and I don't seem to have much

free time to paint for myself. At the moment I am also painting a 12" urn and have only managed to paint the fruit on the front and back of it. Next will come the groundlay, raised paste and gold work; I suppose that will take another few weeks.

Ginger Jar

This delightful 6' Ginger Jar is painted in metallics, china paints and gold work.   The cream metallic was ground laid. There are scattered "base for gold" raised dots on it,  and if you look carefully at the picture you can see some of them standing out proud from the sides of the jar. I used the same white paste to embellish the coloured flowers.

Hollyhocks

This is the Hollyhock plate I painted in class with Andrew Orr in Blenheim, South Island, New Zealand.

Once again Andrew proved to be an interesting, creative and inspiring teacher and all those who attended the class went away with some good practical knowledge that can be applied to our painting in the future.

The exhibition was wonderful (of course!) and two of our club girls won merit awards for their work which was exhibited in special sections.

One of these was Ming Lien - who was one of my students many years ago and now teaches porcelain art in Taiwan.
