Grapes on bone china

You can see I took this picture outside with the plate laying on the grass. Makes a nice surround actually!
My favourite thing to paint on is bone. There is always a nice finish to it and the paint seems to slide on easily. Firing needs to be a little lower than when firing porcelain. I normally fire porcelain at 800 degrees centegrade, and bone at 780 degrees centegrade.

Grapes!

This piece was painted in a class taught by Cindy Warren, while I was staying in Arlington, Texas.
I tired hard to get the depth at the back of the bunch of the grapes which I think I have accomplished! I purchased this lovely stand while attending the Nashville Exhibition last month, and plan to spray it lightly with gold paint which I will then wipe off leaving an antique effect.
I have a few more grape pieces on the "go" - perhaps I have painted a thousand of them during this last year!

HELLO!

I don't have a new photo to post right now, but want to check in to say "HELLO".

At long last spring has arrived, with days warmer without the cold wind. My house is filled with freezias out of my garden, and the scent wafts through the whole house. Lovely!

Isabella is a year old on the 19th September - how time flies. This time last year I was in Melbourne, Australia attending a porcelain art school with Andrew Orr as my teacher.
What a grand learning time that was.

btw - I am attending another class with Andrew early next year in Blenheim, South Island, New Zealand and so looking forward to it. He is a wonderful painter, and an excellent teacher.

Watch this space, 'cos I will post another picture in a day or so.

Grapes on Cheeseboard

This is one of the many grape pieces I painted while staying in Arlington, Texas with my friend Beverly. I was fortunate enough to be invited to be a student in Cindy Warren's grape seminar she held at my friend's home, and I learned so much. The difficult part will be to put what I learned into practice! Isn't that always the way though - the hard thing is to outwork what we learn in life, so we become "do-ers" and not just "hear-ers".

Joerg and Petra Kuglemeier

This wonderfully talented husband and wife were guest artists at Nashville IPAT 50th Golden Jubilee Exhibition, along with Felipe Pereira.
Joerg and Petra spent four years with Meissen learning their art, and then remained 10 years working in the factory as artists. Their work at the exhibition was exquisite, with lots of very fine detail. There was a magnifying glass alongside some of their fascinating miniatures so the detail could be appreciated by the viewers.

Felipe Pereira with tulips

Felipe's work was stunning, with his Panda Bear raffle piece capturing everyone's heart. This man is an accomplished artist, and painted these tulips in about five minutes.
There were always people standing around when he was painting in awe of his speed and accuracy as he welded his fully loaded brush of paint.
